Reaching for the light
Why do I share this music? We have done so much damage to particular pieces of the natural world and the overall balance of nature. We have the knowledge to repair and prevent further damage. But do we have the will or the love to do so?
I choose to sing to try to share my love of nature, to remind others of our existential connection to the natural world, to awaken and nurture the capacity to love. Falling in love with nature, as my friend Nancy McMinn taught me, is the first step toward protecting and preserving. I sing to people in order to help them fall in love with nature. And to create a space where someone else can feel joy.
Usually, when I sing, I also show slides. Photographing is part of my experience with nature - appreciating colour and texture, noticing minute detail and marvelling at interrelationships.
